Karl Harrison GradCIEEM - Assistant Ecologist

Karl Harrison joined us in 2014 after an active 18 months ecological consultancy experience including licensed work with great crested newts and bats. He is proficient in extended Phase One Habitat survey and reporting and has undertaken surveys for protected species, primarily: bats, GCN, birds, reptiles and badgers.

Karl has project managed a national scheme involving bat surveys of 32 schools across the north of England and produced ecological management plans, contractor method statements and reports for Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM. He has also used his communication and liaison skills to good effect as Ecological Clerk of Works.

As a keen professional ecologist, Karl has taken part in voluntary work and a number of formal Continuing Professional Development courses:

  • Field Studies Council: Great Crested Newt, Licensing and Mitigation Course
  • Bat Conservation Trust National Bat Monitoring Program: Introductory Bat Detector Workshop and Field Survey Workshop
  • Freshwater Invertebrates Workshop at RSPB Coombes Valley
  • Active member of Cheshire Bat Group participating in a number of surveys including: Winter Hibernation Surveys (in particular Lesser horseshoe bats), periodical bat box checks and monitoring of known maternity roosts (Brown long-eared, Whiskered/Brandt’s and Soprano pipistrelle bats)
  • Bat box checks with Derbyshire Bat Group
  • Bird box checks with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust
  • Argent and Sable Moth Caterpillar Surveys at RSPB Coombes Valley
