East Yorkshire Amphibian Surveys

With our amphibian survey and project management experience, Haycock and Jay Associates was delighted to be selected to conduct a large scale great crested newt survey along an extensive linear route through East Yorkshire.

The survey incorporated 79 ponds extending from the south side of the River Ouse and up to Market Weighton, East Yorkshire. The ponds were very varied, ranging from small garden ponds, field ponds, ditches and large former brick pit water bodies.

We provided an energetic and able team of field surveyors who worked full-time on the project. They worked tirelessly and were delighted to discover several great crested newt meta-populations. This, and making the most of a great bakery in Market Weighton, somewhat compensated for the very wet survey conditions!

Overcoming a number of difficulties, not least, a very cold start to the survey season, we completed the project on time, ensuring we adhered not only to Natural England guidelines but also to stringent project protocols. In accordance with client wishes we supplied all records to the local Biological Records Centre, to aid great crested newt conservation in the County.
